The malleable nature of digital media is making COPYING and SAMPLING ever so easy. As I participated in this module REMIX culture is so inevitable, thus makes me now question am I really the author of my work? Does 'inspiration' from something count as copying or remixing? Does me using a software with programmed elements make me a remixer or is it originally my creation?
Authorship
For example, this ice cream image and he sketch I did before hand as a reaction to the Open Design worshop
I can't even say that the ice cream design is mine as it is 'inspired' from the characters I see.
But the main question I have is the digitally made one. To create the actual ice cream, I used circles, digitally available in the Inkscape software which I just put together and 'customised' in a way.
This makes me think of templates, where the "designer" is giving options to customise the template and make it one's "own". Are softwares, such as inkscape and the Adobe suite, just templates with a broader range of possibilities? The software almost "dictates" what can and cannot be done or subtly suggest to a user that something can be done "this way" or it can "look like this"
WHO IS THE AUTHOR?
Digital technology is truly making remixing and manipulation with digital media even more easier.
As I had discovered when making my Remix Culture reaction, using digital tools instead of a scissor and glue has opened up much more creative possibilities with my final design.
I would not have been able to remix the puma logo accurately with analogue means, but with digital manipulations I was even able to make the words the same size.
How remix influence our creative process.
